What First-Time Skiers Need to Book Before Travelling.

One of the biggest mistakes first-time skiers make is leaving important extras until arrival. During peak weeks, lessons and equipment can sell out quickly.

Here’s what you should book before your trip.

Ski Equipment

Unless you already own ski gear, you’ll need to hire:

  • Skis (poles will be included)
  • Ski boots
  • Helmet

You can choose to pre-book your ski rental online to secure better prices and guarantee availability during busy periods. It also makes your first day in resort far less stressful, allowing you to get fitted quickly and spend more time enjoying the slopes rather than organising equipment.

Beginner tip: always choose comfort over performance when hiring boots.

First-Time Ski Holiday Packing Checklist

Packing for your first ski holiday can feel confusing, especially if you’ve never worn ski clothing before. The key is layering properly and staying warm without overheating.

Essential Ski Clothing Checklist

Ski Jacket

A waterproof and insulated ski jacket is essential for staying warm on the slopes.

Ski Trousers

Normal trousers or jeans will not work. Ski trousers are waterproof and designed for snow conditions.

Thermal Base Layers

Bring:

  • Thermal tops
  • Thermal leggings

Avoid cotton as it holds moisture.

Mid Layers

Fleeces or lightweight insulated layers help trap warmth.

Ski Socks

Bring several pairs of proper ski socks. Regular socks can cause discomfort and blisters. Do not wear more than one pair!

Gloves or Mittens

Waterproof ski gloves are essential.

Neck Warmer or Buff

Helps protect your face from wind and snow.

Goggles

Ski goggles improve visibility and protect your eyes from snow glare.

Helmet

Italy is the first country to make helmets compulsory for everyone. You can add helmets to your rental package.

  • Lip balm with SPF
  • Sunglasses
  • Swimwear for spa facilities
