Summer
Sestriere has an active and full summer season. It’s a great location to base yourself if you’re wanting to explore the alps in all their summer glory. Enjoy long walks through stunning scenery or if you want to explore on 2 wheels then the mountain biking on offer is superb. Close by are many of the famous climbs of the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France, in fact Sestriere itself has been used as a finishing town on many occasions. It also boasts the highest golf course in Europe at just over 2000m!
Mountain Biking
Mount Fraiteve which overlooks Sestriere has some great downhill tracks. It's serviced by a telecabine taking riders to a height of 2700m before blasting down some fairly technical descents.
Road Cycling
Sestriere often appears in stages of either the Giro d'Italia or the Tour de France. Located a short ride from the French boarder you can choose some epic climbs in both countries.
Golf
Sestriere offers a full 18 hole Golf club (66 par) which can boast of being the highest golf club in Europe. If you haven’t got your clubs with you, don’t worry, it’s possible to rent clubs from the club house. You also have the choice of four other golf courses close by, Bardonecchia ( 9 holes 59 par), The Avigliana Golf course (18 holes 72 par) and The Claviere Golf course ( 9 holes 64 par).
Walking
There are many trials to choose from in the mountains surrounding Sestriere. All of the official paths are well sign posted showing distance and average time to complete. More information on the trails and for a map of the area I suggest that you contact the tourist office in Sestriere.
Via Ferrata
Close to Sestriere is the resort of Claviere which has one of the best Via Ferrata facilities in the Susa Valley. With several Tibetan bridges and well thought out routes it can cater for adults and children (Min height 120cm). It’s open every weekend between June and September and every day during July & August.
